Yoga Nidra is a sleep-based form of meditation. The techniques of Yoga Nidra take the body into a deeply relaxed state, much like REM sleep, except that you are Conscious. The body is asleep while the mind is deeply alert. In this state, the healing power of prana (our body’s energy system) is naturally disengaged from frantic and fragmented mental and emotional activities. As a result, energy flows freely, carrying out restorative and regenerative healing. This is when the we have the power to transform self-destructive habit patterns and old traumas, releasing what has been held unconsciously in all areas of the body.
We are guided in a series of simple techniques using a combination of gentle body movements and breath, coordinated with awareness. The use of a self-created intention is utilized to dissolve and resolve the behavior patterns that are the cause of worry and stress in life.
In Yoga Nidra, we learn how to deeply relax and drop into the Alpha and Theta Brainwave state – without dropping into sleep. Once we learn how to drop into a deep sleep-like relaxation and still remain conscious, the energy that was preoccupied by unconscious limitations becomes infused with an expansive state of consciousness. Now we have tuned into the unlimited source of creativity and potentiality that pure consciousness truly is.
